Day 10 - Sound of Music tour and a train ticket to somewhere (1 of 2)

As I mentioned two days ago, Salzburg is home to the 1965 film THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Well, it would seem we have a fan within our midst named Amy. She even thought enough ahead to download the movie onto her iPad prior to the trip. (I should mention that Ryan has never seen this film so we watched the first part of the movie the night before. This way he could get into the spirit of singing and dancing along the tour. You will have to ask him if he acted anything out.)

So, with this in mind we set out on day 10 to do a Sound of Music tour. Thinking this was easy we started in the middle of town and jumped in a cab. "Take us to Schloss Frohnburg (entrance to the Von Trapp family mansion from the movie)," we said. Our response from the cab driver, "I have never been there."

One would think that every person living in Salzburg would know these locations, but reality is, nearly every local does not have a clue. We pushed on, gave him an address and decided to be dropped off in the middle of the country side. All in all it was a fun experience and was a day to win those brownie points from a cold morning two days prior in the Salzburg train station.

The country road. Rainy and wet. A rather long hike to the next location, the gazebo

The gazebo - Amy and Ashley with the book. A little reenactment anyone?

Behind the gazebo we found a little park with a zip line. Here is Ashley.

More fun. Dizzy?

Next stop was supposed to be Melk. Funny story. After arriving we went to look for the hotel the book recommended. It was closed. Next we tried the hotel across the street. She quoted us 85 euro for the room but after one look we all walked out. Nice little town with some crazy people. We decided to continue onto Vienna. (The whole story and the truth about Melk would be best told over stiff cocktail.)

So, mimosa's anyone? Vienna here we come.
